BP launches big social project in Azerbaijan
BP company in collaboration with the British Council and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Education launched a big project. The scope includes two aspects - English language teaching trainings for teachers and English language sessions for population in five Azerbaijani districts covered by the South Caucasus Pipeline.
"The project will cover the Goranboy, Samukh, Shamkir, Tovuz and Agstafa districts and it is a part of the social investment program," Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, BP`s vice president, communications and external affairs, strategy and region, said at a launch event in Baku May 19.

"The value of the project is more than 150,000 manat with duration of one year," he said. "Some 75 English language teachers representing ten secondary schools to be selected from the communities of the five districts will participate in the trainings."

Aslanbayli added that the project is expected to involve around 500 secondary school children aged 10-16 and around 150 community members.

Aslanbayli said that BP and its partners in the oil and gas projects have to date spent more than $70 million on Azerbaijan`s social activities.

"BP and its co-venturers plan to continue to invest in such projects, since our experience suggests these are areas where we can make the most effective and sustainable contribution," he said. "We believe that through support for these areas we are directly investing in the country`s future."
