EU greatly interested in new gas fields in Caspian region - Sefcovic
The EU is greatly interested in new gas fields in the Caspian and Eastern Mediterranean regions, says Maros Sefcovic, vice-president of the European Commission for Energy Union.

The Caspian region is an important source of oil and gas for the EU, said Sefcovic addressing a conference held May 19 as part of the international `Oil and Gas Uzbekistan 2016` exhibition in Tashkent.

Noting that the Southern Gas Corridor project is aimed at supplying the European market with gas from the Caspian region, Central Asia and Middle East, Sefcovic said the delivery of 10 billion cubic meters of Caspian gas to Europe is expected to start in 2020.

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) - a part of the Southern Gas Corridor - is meant to transport gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan`s Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to the EU.
