Nicolas Cage says National Treasure 3 script held up because `fact checking`
Back in 2004, when Nicolas Cage was still a leading actor capable of raking in millions of dollars, National Treasure hit cinemas to resounding box office success.
Soon after, a sequel, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, was released, once again raking in money (despite relatively negative reviews).

Even since the second film`s release, fans of the actor/meme have been wondering "when will work will start on a third instalment? Thankfully, Cage has revealed work is still being done on the script; it’s just being held up because of fact checking.

“I haven’t really heard anything about that,” Cage told EW. “I do know that those scripts are very difficult to write, because there has to be some credibility in terms of the facts and fact checking, because it was relying on historical events. And then you have to make it entertaining.

“I know that it’s been a challenge to get the script where it needs to be. That’s as much as I’ve heard. But they’re still working on it.”

Considering the first film revolved around a secret map on the back of the Declaration of Independence, you have to wonder how much fact checking can really be done on a series like National Treasure.

Cage is currently promoting his film The Trust, co-starring Lord of The Rings actor Elijah Wood.
