Journalist Khadija Ismayilova
The arrest of journalist Khadija Ismayilova is not connected with politics or her activity as a journalist, the chairman of the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of Azerbaijan, MP Azay Guliyev told reporters Dec. 8.
Ismayilova was arrested after a complaint filed by her former colleague. A preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen for Ismayilova.

“Some organizations are trying to politicize the legitimate reaction of the law enforcement bodies to the complaint of one colleague towards another,” he said. “Earlier, they worked together and they had serious relations. This is totally unacceptable.”

"Ismayilova was arrested after a complaint filed by one of her colleagues, rather than a suit by governmental agencies,” he said. “An investigation is underway. Everyone must know that neither political activity, nor professional journalism gives anyone immunity from prosecution."

“There is freedom of speech, press and information in Azerbaijan,” he said. “Nobody is pursued for this activity.”

Ismayilova was interrogated in the Baku city prosecutor`s office concerning former representative of "Azadlig" and "Meydan TV" radio Tural Mustafayev’s attempted suicide.

Mustafayev drank zinc oxide at the Seaside National Park October 21. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
