Samad Seyidov: It is a wrong move to choose Azerbaijan as a target
"Why do they keep silent in relation to other countries but attack us?"
The head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov responded to the statements of the organization Anne Brasseur and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Tornbern Jagland on the arrest of Khadija Ismail.

Seyidov said that after similar steps of law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan, these organizations immediately immediately begin to condemn us.

Seyidov said that Azerbaijan has no objection to any statements:

"However, while making such statements it would be good to look around. Why do they keep silent in relation to other countries but attack us? Why shouldn`t they speak out on the latest anti-democratic actions in the United States? Let the head of the PACE and the Council of Europe, along with Azerbaijan, speak out on other events. It all shows that the matter is not only about observation of human rights but about the subjective choice of Azerbaijan as a target."

However, Seyidov noted that the Working Group which was established in conjunction with the Council of Europeis, is engaged in similar matters, and this will be continued: "However, they should be aware that it is unacceptable to take human rights out of context with aim to put pressure on the law enforcement. Such statements do not bring positive results and can only harm the image of the Council of Europe. It is a wrong move to choose Azerbaijan as a target. "

Anne Brasseur and Tornbern Jagland condemned the arrest of journalist Khadija Ismayilova and called on Azerbaijan to respect the standards of the European Convention on Human Rights.
