Azerbaijan elected to UN Economic and Social Council
On June 14, 2016, Azerbaijan was elected to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the term 2017-2019, Asia-Plus news agency reported.
According to the information, Azerbaijan won 182 votes out of a total of 185 votes casted in the Asia and Pacific group in the election.

Among the winners were Russia, China, the Republic of Korea, Tajikistan, Benin, Bosnia, Britain, Cameroon, Colombia, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Venezuela, etc.

The ECOSOC is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic, social and related work of 14 UN specialized agencies, their functional commissions and five regional commissions.
