French Parliament rejects proposal against Azerbaijan
Today the proposal to establish a special investigative committee on Azerbaijan in accordance with the policy of the country for the development of peace and democracy in the South Caucasus region was discussed at the meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the French National Assembly.
The proposal was put forward by members of the centrist Union of Democrats and independents, headed by well-known for pro-Armenian position Francois Rochebloine, Thierry Benoit, Charles de Courson, and some other deputies. Speaking in the debate the parliamentarian Elisabeth Guigou noted that the adoption of this proposal is not possible for legal reasons, as it is made with violations of procedural norms established by the Committee. Guigou stressed that France, which is a co-chair on the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must refrain from adopting such documents.

Majority of the members of the Committee noted that the adoption of the proposal could put a shadow on France`s mediation in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, adversely affect the existing economic ties between two countries. Despite the efforts of François Rochebloine, the proposal has not been accepted, receiving insufficient number of votes.

Meanwhile, Elisabeth Guigou has proposed the establishment of the information mission on Nagorno-Karabakh and activity of the OSCE Minsk Group at the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the French National Assembly. Her proposal was accepted and sent for approval by the chamber of chairmen of the parliament.
