98th anniversary of Azerbaijani police
Azerbaijan is marking the 98th anniversary of the establishment of its police force. On this occasion, a solemn event is underway at the Mobile Police Regiment of the Interior Ministry.
Interior Minister Ramil Usubov said in his speech at the event that 2 June was declared Police Day in Azerbaijan after Heydar Aliyev signed a decree in this regard on May 24, 1998.

“The history of police has been closely linked with the history of our state. As all our people, our police too have witnessed the establishment and fall of our democratic republic, the Soviet period, and the catastrophic consequences of World War II,” he said.

The minister noted that crimes rate has fallen by 28 percent compared to 2002. Disclosure of crimes has increased by 95 percent and closed crimes have decreased by 13 percent.

Ramil Usubov said Azerbaijan’s image of stability country has made him the host of a number of major international events.

“In 2015 and the past months of this year, public order and security were ensured at a high level during up to 800 international events held in the country as well as during the European Games and the Formula One European Grand Prix,” he stressed.

He added that 1,211 Interior Ministry employees and servicemen were awarded state awards for their merits during the years of independence.

“On the eve of this professional holiday, 41 employees were awarded the “For the Motherland” and “For bravery” medals and two officials were granted special higher ranks on the order of the country’s president,” he said.

Later on, an order of the head of state and relevant orders of the interior minister on awarding a group of employees for their distinguished performance of special tasks were read out. Ramil Usubov then presented special higher and new shoulder-straps, state awards and other awards to the ministry’s employees and servicemen.
