Caspian Sea legal status mulled in Astana
The 46th session of the ad hoc working group, tasked to develop a convention on the Caspian Sea`s legal status, was held in Astana on July 11-12, said a statement from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
The talks were attended by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, Head of the Russian delegation to the multilateral talks on the Caspian Sea, Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Igor Bratchikov, Iranian president’s special envoy for Caspian Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour, and Ambassador-at-large of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Zulfiya Amanzholova.

Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrissov delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony.

He stressed the importance of the Astana meeting on the eve of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Caspian littoral states, noting the need for making maximum efforts to prepare the Convention on the Caspian Sea`s legal status to be signed at the fifth summit to be held in Astana.

The main theme of the meeting was preparation for the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Caspian states to be held on July 13.

The next meeting of the ad hoc working group will be held in Iran.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Caspian littoral states in Astana July 13.
