Turkish General Staff to be based outside Ankara
The General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces will be based outside Ankara, Haber7 newspaper reported Aug. 3 citing sources in Turkish military circles.
The newspaper didn’t mention the exact location.

Changing the residence of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces will take place within the framework of military reforms in Turkey.

Earlier it was reported that the country’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that almost all power structures of the country will be based outside Ankara.

The building of the General Staff of Turkey, which was seized by the coup plotters during the military coup attempt in mid-July, is located in the center of Ankara and in the immediate vicinity of the Parliament and the Ministry of National Defense.

On July 15 evening, Turkish authorities said a military coup attempt took place in the country. Meanwhile, a group of servicemen announced about transition of power to them.

However, the rebelling servicemen started to surrender July 16 and Turkish authorities said the coup attempt failed. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the death toll as a result of the military coup attempt stood at 246 people excluding the coup plotters and over 2,000 people were wounded.

Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in Turkey on July 20.
