Georgian foreign ministry is against Margvelashvili-Putin meeting in Moscow
If the presidents of Georgia and Russia meet, the venue must have a symbolic value and it can not be Moscow, Georgian Foreign Minister Tamar Beruchashvili said.
She was commenting on the Russian president Vladimir Putin`s statement about the willingness to receive Georgian leadership in Moscow.

Beruchashvili stressed that the ministry is not involved in the preparation for the meeting.

"Although I do not exclude that the Georgian government will consider this issue," she said.

The minister stressed that at this stage of developing the relations between the two countries, it is very important to examine the topic of the meeting.

"The main goal is to achieve a compromise on such strategic issues as territorial integrity, sovereignty and security," Beruchashvili said.

She said that that those negotiation formats between the two countries "still" have opportunities for development.

On December 18, President Putin said he will be happy to receive any representative of the Georgian authorities in Moscow.

Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said that they are ready to hold a formal meeting with President Putin, but it needs careful consideration.
