Azerbaijan cancels authorities of Defense Ministry on funeral of servicemen of some categories
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on making amendments to the presidential decree No.727 dated January 14, 2016 on “Application of the Law No. 39-VQD dated December 18, 2015 of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “Making amendments to the “Garrison and Guard Duty Charter of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan”, approved by the Law No. 886 dated 23 September 1994.

APA reports that the amendment is related to organization and holding of funerals.

In accordance with the regulations on garrison and guard service of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, military honoring is to be held at the funeral of military servicemen who lost their lives while on combat duty and military officials called to gathering, supreme and chief officers who have not reached the upper age limit for reserve but who have been discharged due to age, illness or staff reduction and have served for 20 years or more, discharged supreme and chief officers on condition of being grant the right to wear military uniform, discharged military servicemen who have been declared “national hero of Azerbaijan” or awarded “şöhrət” order and “Şah İsmayil” higher military order, and other persons prescribed in the law.

Expenses arising from holding of funerals for these persons used to be financed by the funds allocated from the state budget for the purpose of maintaining the Defense Ministry, which provided financial assistance in the manner and amount prescribed by the law to the parents of the deceased.

According to the amendment, the Defense Ministry’s powers in this respect have been given to the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription.
