Russia opposes agreement on alliance and strategic partnership with Sukhumi
Russia opposed considering the Russian-Abkhaz agreement on alliance and strategic partnership as part of the UN Security Council. According to the Georgian media, the Russian side believes that this is an agreement between two sides and it does not concern the UN.
The Georgian side raises the issue of considering the agreement in the UN Security Council and recognizing it as a step in the annexation of the territory of Georgia.

According to Georgia’s mission to UN, Georgia’s partner countries supported the country’s position in a closed session of the Security Council.

The representatives of Lithuania and Great Britain condemned the conclusion of the contract between Sukhumi and Moscow and recognized this as the beginning of annexation of the territory of Georgia by Russia. They stressed that such agreements threaten the sovereignty of Georgia and pose a threat to security in the region.
