UN adopts resolution on transport-transit corridors initiated by Turkmenistan
The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution entitled "Role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring the international cooperation for sustainable development" initiated by Turkmenistan, the UN News Center said Dec. 23.
The document lays the foundation for the transport networks, combining road, rail, sea and air routes with the help of the intermodal logistics centers and dry ports.

The provisions of the resolution reflect the key elements of the Ashgabat Declaration, adopted in September 2014. It aims at creating an integrated approach to the development of transport and transit communications.

The resolution envisages the mobilization of financial and technical resources from the international monetary and financial institutions.

The document urges the Secretary General to prepare a report on the ways to enhance the international cooperation in this area for the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in 2015 given the consultations with the UN member states and relevant agencies of the UN system.

The document was supported by all UN member states and adopted by a consensus.
