President Aliyev phones Radik Isayev who won gold medal at Rio Olympics - PHOTOS
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made a phone call to taekwando fighter Radik Isayev who claimed a gold medal at Rio Olympics.

President Ilham Aliyev said Radik Isayev`s confident victory made all the people of Azerbaijan happy.

The head of state said Radik Isayev had previously proved to be the strongest taekwondo fighter in the world in his weight category as he claimed the title of the world champion and now won the Olympic Games. President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the athlete, and wished him new successes and victories.

The head of state asked Radik Isayev to extend his congratulations to his coach.

Radik Isayev expressed his deepest gratitude to the President for the congratulations. He said his victory was possible thanks to President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to sports.

Azerbaijan claims first gold at Rio 2016

Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Radik Isaev has won a gold medal at the Rio 2016.

Isaev defeated Niger`s Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga in the men`s +80 kg finals.



It is the first gold medal of Azerbaijan at the Rio 2016.

Fifty-six athletes are representing Azerbaijan at the 2016 Summer Olympics, underway in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The games, which kicked off on Aug. 5, will end on Aug. 21, and will be followed by the 15th Summer Paralympic Games on Sept. 7-18.‎
