Shootout in Turkey, 3 dead
A shootout has occurred in Turkey’s Van province between the local population and militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist organization, the Hurriyet newspaper reported Sept.2.
Three residents of the province were killed and four more injured as a result of the incident.

Reportedly, following the shootout, Turkish armed forces launched an operation to neutralize the terrorists.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 33 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
