Kazakh president urges to learn a lesson from situation in Ukraine
“People need basic things. There is no light, no heat, phased blackouts ... plants and factories are getting closed, the business is collapsing,” the president said Dec. 25 during a nation-wide teleconference.
Nazarbayev said that during a meeting, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk admitted that “he can’t imagine what funds are needed to restore Luhansk or Donbass.”
“Everything is broken in the country; throughout 10 years there have been political battles, which grew into an armed conflict,” Nazarbayev said. “Does anyone really think that an ordinary person came out and went to fight? Nothing like that. It is the politicians, who send them into the fire of fratricide.”
“Such politicians need to be stopped in time for the sake of the country’s people,” he added.
The president noted that during the crisis in Ukraine, over 5,000 people have been killed, and more than half of the killed are the elderly, women and children.
“What you were fighting for? What were you defending, and from what enemies? All the work looses sense when people are dying, cities get destroyed and neighbors fence off each other with help of blockhouses... Such wounds will not heal easy,” Nazarbayev added.
He recalled that many residents of Kazakhstan are the natives of Ukraine, and they have made a considerable contribution to the establishment of national economy.
“I urge the leaders of all states to stop the bacchanalia and restore the normal life in Ukraine,” the president said.
“Every resident of Kazakhstan should understand that only in conditions of stability we have achieved what we have today,” Nazarbayev said.
