Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev earlier signed an order to hold a referendum on making amendments to the country’s Constitution on Sept. 26, 2016.
Czarnecki expressed hope for close cooperation between the government of Azerbaijan and the Venice Commission on constitutional reforms.
“All parties and leaders of various political parties expect the proposed amendments to the Constitution will increase democratic participation and representation and make the public administration more efficient,” the EP vice-president said.
“We believe that the results of the Sept. 26 referendum will be a true democratic expression of the Azerbaijani people,” Czarnecki added.
