Iran`s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Ebrahim Rahimpour told on Dec. 26 that Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries are hopeful about reaching a comprehensive agreement over the country
“Reaching an agreement is a win-win situation both for Tehran and the West,” he said.

The official went on to note that a positive atmosphere has been created inside Iran about the talks.

“Iranians have endured hardships in the past, so they are not going to easily believe anything. Some expectations have been created and they have to be met. Iranians are hopeful, but they also rely on their logic,” he noted.

“We want a situation that will serve the interests of our nation. We also wish good for the other side, so it’s rather a mutual success,” Rahimpour said.

Iran and P5+1 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council comprising of China, France, Russia, Britain, the US Plus Germany) sealed an interim deal in Geneva on November 24,2013 to pave the way for the full resolution of the West’s decade-old dispute with Iran over the country’s nuclear energy program.

The Geneva deal took effect on January 20 and expired on July 20.

However the two sides agreed to extend their talks for four months till Nov. 24 to reach a permanent deal on Iran`s disputed nuclear program.

During a meeting held on November 24, 2014, the sides agreed to extend the talks for further seven months.
