Nearly 53,000 observers registered for referendum in Azerbaijan
To date, about 53,000 observers have been registered for the upcoming referendum in Azerbaijan, said Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC).
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed an order to hold a referendum on Sept. 26 for making amendments to the country’s Constitution.

According to the CEC chairman, 5,627 polling stations will be set up during the referendum, and about 10 observers will be able to monitor the voting in one polling station.

Panahov noted that to date, 117 international observers have been registered at the CEC to monitor the referendum in Azerbaijan.

“These are representatives of about 35 countries, various international organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and parliamentarians”, he said.

The number of local citizens willing to observe the elections is high enough, said Panahov, adding that all conditions have been created for voters to freely cast their votes in the referendum.
