Baku calls Euronews Insiders edition on Karabakh conflict biased
In the episode of Insiders program on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Euronews reporter Valérie Gauriat demonstrated a biased and one-sided approach, Hikmat Hajiyev, spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, told.
Hajiyev said, the so-called regime created in the occupied Azerbaijani territories was presented as a legitimate structure in the channel’s Insiders episode.

He noted that this is nothing but an attempt to turn a blind eye to the fact of occupation and aggression, bloody ethnic cleansing committed in the occupied Azerbaijani territories against the peaceful population.

This also contradicts the journalist objectivity and the impartiality principles supported by Euronews, Hajiyev added.

“Unfortunately, the episode did not reflect the acts of torture committed by Armenia against Khojaly residents, although the channel film crew met with them,” said the spokesman. “This is another point of concern.”

Hajiyev noted that the episode also contained a story about economic entity “Artsah Fruit” that is illegally operating in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

“This information and statement made by a representative of “Artsah Fruit” show that Armenia is pursuing a policy of misleading the international community in this regard. The representative said that Armenia labels are used in their products. It is aimed at misleading customs regime of other countries during the export of products, as the origin of products should be recorded properly,” he said.

The Insiders episode is biased and beyond the principle of journalistic objectivity, Hajiyev stressed.

“While highlighting the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict, journalists must strictly adhere to the principles of objectivity. Azerbaijan once again proved that it has ensured freedom of press for local and international media,” he said.

In her appeal to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, Euronews journalist had expressed respect towards Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, sovereignty, asking permission for journalistic activity, the spokesman recalled.

“Azerbaijan, which has always supported freedom of press, issued an accreditation card for her activity both in Azerbaijan and its occupied territories. Unfortunately, she didn’t fully comply with the principles of objectivity and impartiality in journalism while preparing the program,” he added.
