Azerbaijani Justice Ministry, ICRC expand collaboration
A workshop titled “Sharing experiences in safety and security in prisons” co-organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan started on October 6.
Fifteen middle-ranking personnel from the Penitentiary Service involved in the management of detainees and security matters as well as trainers of Justice Academy are attending the event to deepen their knowledge of relevant international standards and share experience. The two-day event is taking place at the Justice Academy in Baku.

Some participants attending the event also have experience in conducting trainings for Penitentiary Service personnel.

“The Justice Academy gives priority to projects aimed at ‘training trainers’”, says Elchin Khalafov, Vice Rector of the Justice Academy. “We value this event and plan to involve our own expert trained during this workshop in the in-service and graduation courses conducted by the Justice Academy.”

Major General Huseyn Alikhanov, Deputy Head of the Penitentiary Service, shared his appreciation of the cooperation between the ICRC and the Penitentiary Service and expressed his support for extending this cooperation to new areas.

The course is being organized for the first time in Azerbaijan.

According to the agreement signed between the Government of Azerbaijan and the ICRC, delegates of the organization visit detention facilities in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan.
