EU hopes to launch negotiations with Azerbaijan on new agreement soon

The European Union is currently discussing a draft mandate agreed by the Commission earlier this year to negotiate a new agreement with Azerbaijan, to replace the 1996 Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and to better take account of our current bilateral relations, EU official told.
“This reflects the emphasis on differentiation in the EU`s recently reviewed Neighbourhood Policy. Discussions on the mandate in the relevant Council working group are well underway. Azerbaijan is an important partner of the European Union and we hope to launch negotiations on the new agreement soon,” says statement.
