On January 5, four militants fired shots at the Saudi border guards and when the latter returned fire wounding one of the attackers, another militant detonated his suicide belt killing himself, one of his accomplices and three guards. At least three other guards have been injured in explosion, according to the kingdom’s Interior Ministry.
The spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Interior told Al-Hayat newspaper that the attackers have not been identified yet. However, according to the Al-Hayat the attack was carried out by four Saudi nationals who were trained by the IS to become suicide bombers.
IS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), is a Sunni jihadist group that has taken over vast territories in Syria and Iraq.
