Azerbaijan grants powers to persons conducting op against religious extremism
Azerbaijan’s Parliament on Friday discussed documents on granting a number of powers to persons who conduct operations against religious extremism.
MPs also discussed other amendments of the same context proposed to be made to the laws on mass media, television and radio broadcasting, public television and radio broadcasting, on telecommunications, gas supply, water supply and sewage, power, traffic, and motorways.

With the amendments, the body carrying out the operation against religious extremism will make a decision, upon which necessary steps will be taken.

MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev said the fact that media outlets can spread the information only after getting permission from the body conducting the operation restricts media’s freedom. “This could be done another way.”

Following the discussions, draft amendments were put to the vote separately and were all approved.
