SOCAR purchases 3 bcm of gas to compensate deficit in domestic market
In January-October 2016, Shahdeniz increased production 10% to 8.21 billion cubic meters of gas, The Vice-President of Oil, Gas Production and Transportation at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), Rahman Gurbanov, told Natural Gas Europe.
According to him, Azerbaijan purchased 2.64 billion cubic meters of Shahdeniz gas to compensate the deficit in the domestic market: “This makes up 32.9% of total gas Shahdeniz produced. Relevantly, SOFAZ has not got incomes from Shahdeniz gas since June”.

The Vice President added that other part of gas was transported to Turkey through Georgia and Tbilisi got 5% of this gas as a transit fee.

Gurbanov added that gas supply from Azerbaijan to Georgia made up 715.9 million cubic meters.

During this period, 167.3 million cubic meters of gas were transported to Iran: “Iran takes 15% of this gas as a swap fee and transports remaining part to Nakhchivan”.

SOCAR official noted that total gas production, including associated gas stood at 22.289 billion cubic meters this year, up 741 million cubic meters from 2015.
