Police detain Cumhuriyet board head Atalay at Istanbul airport
Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board President Akın Atalay was detained by police at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport on Friday, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
His detention comes after nine people were arrested on November 5 in the ‘terrorism’ investigation targeting Cumhuriyet, one of the oldest and most respected newspapers.

Atalay had also been wanted in the investigation but was abroad during the initial wave of detentions targeting Cumhuriyet journalists and executives, Hurriyet Daily News reports. He was detained after returning from Germany.
