Ethiopian government has jailed over 11,000 since introducing state of emergency
The Ethiopian government has revealed the scale of its crackdown, following the introduction of a state of emergency in early October, prompted by civil unrest throughout the country.
"Some 11,607 individuals have so far been detained in six prisons, of which 347 are female, in connection with the state of emergency declared in the country," State of Emergency Inquiry Board chairperson Taddesse Hordofa said on state television, without revealing how many had been charged or released.

Those detained have been accused of violence towards officials and other citizens, incitement, and disruption of infrastructure.
