Terminal for Ro-Ro ships to be commissioned in Azerbaijan
The terminal for Ro-Ro ships will be commissioned in late 2015 within the framework of construction of a New International Sea Trade Port in the Alat settlement in Azerbaijan, the head of the Baku International Sea Port Taleh Ziyadov said Jan.15 during a ceremony on the occasion of the implementation of the first sea voyage in Baku by the Turkmen ferry Berkarar (Ro-Ro).

He said that after commissioning of the new terminal, it will receive Ro-Ro ships.

Construction of a new international port began in November 2010 and is being carried out in three phases. The first phase of the project involves the construction of two ferry and three cargo berths for receiving containers, “ro-ro” vessels and conventional (universal) dry cargo ships. The second phase of the project involves the construction of three more cargo berths, the third - the construction of two additional cargo berths.

The port will be able to receive up to 11.6 million metric tons of cargo a year.

The creation of a powerful port infrastructure is important in terms of provision of goods transportation by Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) rail. Full commission is expected in 2015.
