TAP can serve as example in promoting safety standards
TAP can serve as an example in promoting safety standards, Greek ambassador to Albania Eleni Sourani said.
She made the remarks during the 3rd Tirana Gas Pipelines Safety Workshop, organized on Nov.18 by the embassy of Greece.

The event titled “Gasification of Albania builds safety capacity,” brought together the most important Albanian energy institutions and companies in an effort to share experience and promote safety as well as environmental best practice in the gas industry, said the message posted on TAP’s website.

Sourani highlighted in her speech that with its commitment to internationally recognized health, safety, security and environmental standards and the use of best practices, TAP can serve as an example to emulate in this field while helping to foster a much needed safety culture within the Albanian society and business community.

“The experience that Albanian companies and workers are gaining from the construction of the TAP project is a key legacy for the country’s safety standards,” said the message. “TAP provides an excellent opportunity for Albania to improve safety standards not only in the energy sector, but also in the construction and transport industries.”

TAP project envisages transportation of gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan`s Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to the EU countries.

The 870-kilometer pipeline will be connected to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy`s south.

TAP’s route through Albania will be approximately 215 km onshore and 37 km offshore in the Albanian section of the Adriatic Sea. It starts at Bilisht Qender in the Korca region at the Albanian border with Greece, and arrives at the Adriatic coast 17 km north-west of Fier, 400 meters inland from the shoreline.
