Azerbaijan, Lithuania to expand cooperation in radiation safety
As an EU member, Lithuania is ready to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, Lithuanian ambassador to Azerbaijan Valdas Lastauskas said at an event Jan. 14. The event was dedicated to the joint project "Strengthening of radiation safety infrastructure and the development of additional services in Azerbaijan", financed by the EU.
The ambassador highly appreciated the results of the project and thanked Azerbaijan for the high level cooperation.

"The Azerbaijani government greatly supports Lithuania in the implementation of projects in this area,” the ambassador said. “Lithuania is ready to continue and expand cooperation with Azerbaijan."

While speaking about the results of the project, Director of Radiation Protection Centre of Lithuania Albinas Mastauskas said that he contributed to the development of nuclear and radiation safety in Azerbaijan.

The director also stressed that a number of important operations were conducted as part of the project.

He said that Azerbaijani legislation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety corresponds to the EU legislation.

While talking about future plans, the director said that it is very important to adopt legislative acts in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, mandatory programs, to hold training for those working in this field, as well as to strengthen the potential of the Radiation Laboratory of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Acting Head of the Azerbaijani State Agency on Nuclear and Radiological Activity Regulation Vugar Huseynov also stressed the importance of the project for Azerbaijan.

“The positive results were achieved as part of the project,” he said. “Azerbaijan has made contribution in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, as well as the development of nuclear technology.”
