Georgia to become bridge between East, Europe - EU Commissioner
Georgia as a bridge between East and Europe will be able to play an important international role in the future, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Johannes Hahn said at a meeting with the president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili.
“The European Union is interested in expanding cooperation with Georgia and the country`s rapprochement with the EU,” said the commissioner. “The Association Agreement is a first important step in this direction, and now it is up to the implementation. But Georgia can play an even more important role as a bridge between the East and Europe. Georgia in the future could become the arbiter between the two regions, and this is its most important international mission.”

During the meeting the sides discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and the EU, the Administration of President of Georgia told Trend Jan.16.

The parties also discussed the situation in the region, in particular, the alliance agreement signed between Russia and separatist Abkhazia.

The events in Ukraine, to some extent, are a continuation of what happened in Georgia in August 2008, according to the president.
