Huseyn Baghirov explains reasons behind Caspian Sea level fall
"Water withdrawal in the Caspian Sea may create a hazardous situation"
The reason behind the fall of the Caspian Sea’s level is linked to constant cyclic changes in wind directions and the fluctuation of water level in rivers of different regions, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Baghirov told journalists.

The minister said the rise of the water level is even more dangerous, and necessary actions should be taken in advance: “Back in the 1980s, the level of the Caspian Sea rose, swamping some costal areas, turning significant parts of the Baku Boulevard into marsh”.

H. Baghirov noted that the current withdrawal of the Caspian Sea could also create a hazardous situation: “But the situation now is not as threatening and dramatic as in the 1980s”.
