Japan recalls ambassador from South Korea over wartime sex victim statue
Japan is recalling Ambassador Yasumasa Nagamine from Seoul after a statue of a `comfort woman` was erected in front of the Japanese consulate in the South Korean city of Busan.
`Comfort women` is a euphemism for Asian women who were forced to have sex with Japanese soldiers during World War II. The statue was placed there by activists as a reminder of the grudge many Koreans have against Japan over the lack of proper restitution by the Japanese government to the victims of the practice.
