Hikmet Hajiyev responds to US co-chair of OSCE MG
The acting spokesperson of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev has responded to the US co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick.
“We also appeal to the co-chairing countries of OSCE Minsk Group urging to force Armenian leadership to stop the sabotage actions and withdraw this country’s troops from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories,” Hajiyev tweeted on Jan.23.

The US co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick earlier urged the sides to stop the violence along the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies.

“My appeal to the presidents: stop the violence along the line of contact and commit to negotiations,” Warlick tweeted on Jan.23.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
