As soon as it became known that Abkhazia was taking part in the international exhibition, Georgia’s Consulate General immediately protested, the Georgian foreign ministry said Jan. 23.
The Georgian delegation, which participated in the exhibition, held the meetings with the organizers and officials of Turkey to appropriately respond to this fact.
"The private companies were represented in some halls of this exhibition,” the ministry said. “One of these halls was rented by one of the Turkish companies. Abkhazia’s tourist booth was also there."
Large scale military action was launched between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August.
In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognized republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
