Man who saved 669 children during the Holocaust has no idea they’re around him
In 1939, on the eve of WWII, Nicholas Winton, a young British stockbroker, risked his life to ensure the safe relocation of 669 children, mostly Jewish, from Czechoslovakia to Britain.

As the purest form of a hero, Winton never told anyone what he had done. Not even his wife knew of his daring accomplishment. In fact, she didn’t uncover the truth until one ordinary day when she was digging through their attic and uncovered an old scrapbook. Hidden in the pages of the scrapbook were the names, pictures and documents of the children Winton had saved.

All those years later, Winton was given the recognition he deserved but never sought. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, and was awarded with the Czech Order of the White Lion in 2014. The British press fondly referred to him as the “British Schindler.”

In 1998, Winton was invited to be an audience member on a television series titled That’s Life! Unbeknownst to him, the seats surrounding him were filled with the children, now grownups, he had personally risked his life to save. Watch the video below to see the emotional moment he realized who he was surrounded by.
