Georgian President vetos bill restricting lawyers` rights
President of Georgia imposed a veto on draft amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code limiting the rights of lawyers.
According to the bill, lawyers are denied of the rights of search, seizure of evidencees and obtaining information in public institutions.

According to the Parliamentary Secretary to President Dmitri Dzagnidze, the president has two comments.

The first concerns the defense side`s powers in the investigation. According to Dzagnidze, the Parliament defined September 2014 the term of the entry of the rule into force, but the President proposes to launch it in September, this year.

The second point concerns the exchange of evidence. It`s about the evidence that have crucial importance for the defense which can lead to an acquittal verdict. According to Jagnidze, the president proposed to reserve this right of lawyers.

Bar Association of Georgia is protesting against the same articles of the bill.
