The Italian minister stressed the importance of diversifying sources and routes.
“Italy is 45% dependent on Russian gas, which is up 65% in winter,” said Calenda, adding. “Other important and large suppliers are Algeria and Libya which are still unstable regions. The long-term contracts with Algeria for the supply of 35 billion cubic meters of natural gas will expire in 2020, taking into account the expected demand, the potential deficit is estimated at about 14 billion m3. Therefore, TAP is an important project.”
The Italian minister noted that the diversification of sources and supply increase will create an impetus for competitiveness, and this will reduce the price of gas for end consumers, entrepreneurs and families.
