Iranian FM, US Secretary of State talk over nuke issues
Iran
During the one-hour meeting, which included senior European Union official Helga Schmid the sides discussed the latest developments in nuclear negotiations between Tehran and the P5+1(the US, UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany) group.

The Iranian minister also held a one-on-one meeting with his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Zarif is also to hold bilateral meetings with his Russian and British counterparts.

The top Iranian diplomat is scheduled to attend a meeting attended by Kerry as well as his French and German counterparts, Laurent Fabius and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, on Feb. 8 to discuss Iran’s nuclear program. European Union foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, is likely to participate in the meeting as well.

Back in January, Zarif and Kerry held intense negotiations in the Swiss city of Geneva to help speed up the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.

Talks between Iran and the P5+1 group have been extended until July 1, 2015 to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement.

After the sides failed to meet the 24 Nov. 2014 deadline they also extended the Geneva nuclear deal, which was signed in November 2013 for providing Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.

The US and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.
