Davutoglu said that the Istanbul new airport will be able to receive aircraft of more than 150 world’s airlines.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for Oct.29, 2017. Currently, 30,000 people are working on the construction of the third airport near the Lake Terkos in the north of Istanbul.
The agreement on construction of the third airport in the city was signed in May 2013.
Limak-Kolin-Cengiz-MaPa-Kalyon consortium of companies won the tender for the airport’s construction by offering 22.1 billion euros for participation in the project.
Earlier, the Air Transport Department of the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend that the construction of the airport will cost 10 billion TRY (official exchange rate is 2.4930 TL/USD Feb. 13.).
Initially, the airport will serve 90 million passengers per year and further, this figure will increase to 150 million.
Previously, Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Lutfi Elvan said that the third airport of Istanbul can be named after the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
