“We can feel the troubles Armenians have undergone. We don’t see the Armenian diaspora as an enemy at all, they are our diaspora,” said the PM.
Asked why the 100th anniversary of the Canakkale battle will be celebrated on 24 April, Davutoglu said: “We always celebrate on 18 March, but the opposite side – the Anzacs (Australians and New Zealanders - APA) celebrate on 24 April. We appointed this date in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary together”.
Davutoglu also touched upon the opening of the Turkey-Armenia border.
“We would open the border if Armenia withdrew from just one Azerbaijani district. But this didn’t happen. I’d like to give you one example. Erbil today is richer than Baghdad because it has direct economic ties with Turkey. If a similar process starts with Armenia, Turkey would help them prosper. Greece and Armenia sometimes act upon the expectation that “Turkey will have to accept our demands when becomes weak”. But they see Turkey never gets weak and will not,” the PM completed.
