The potential candidate for US presidency wanted to demonstrate what an open and technically skilled politician he was. Having posted online his emails covering eight years as Florida governor Jeb Bush accidentally released the interlocutors’ personal data containing names, birth dates and social security numbers.
According to experts, these data can be used by criminals for fraud purposes. “Now we have more than 12,000 individuals who are exposed to the risks of identity fraud,” the chief executive of data security firm Identity Finder, Todd Feinman, says.
By Thursday Bush’s team had removed the private information from all but a few hundred of the emails that were posted on a website on Tuesday. “We have edited every account that we have found,” Bush spokeswoman Kristy Campbell said.
According to observers, this can undermine the politician’s image in the presidential race. Among his potential opponents there are the former State Secretary Hillary Clinton and the US vice-president Joseph Biden. The present President Barak Obama cannot stand for the presidential post as he is finishing his second – and according to the US Constitution the last possible – 4-year presidential term.
Jeb Bush’s father is the 41-st US President George Bush who held office from 1989 to 1993. Bush’s elder son George W. Bush was the US president between 2001 and 2009.
