Iran is nightmare for "Islamic State" in Iraq - Iranian major general
Iran has become a pain in the neck for the "Islamic State" (IS, formerly ISIL or ISIS) in Iraq, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of Iran`s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said.
Once the IS started its terror acts in Iraq, no country excluding Iran helped Iraqis in destruction of the IS, Jafari said, Iran’s Fars news agency reported Feb. 14.

Iran’s helps dismantled the IS plans in Iraq, Jafari said, adding “entire world even the US president Barack Obama were flabbergasted with Iran’s move.”

The IRGC commander said that the Islamic Republic also was the only country which supported “Islamic Awakening” movements in the Muslim countries.

It should be noted that although the recent revolutions in Arab states are often called "Arab Spring", Iranian authorities named it "Islamic Awakening" and a continuation of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

The IS was created in 2003 in Iraq. Following the start of military confrontation in Syria between the armed opposition and the government forces, the IS penetrated the country in 2013.

Strengthening of the IS in Syria allowed it to return to Iraq, deploying military actions against government forces there.

Some western and Iraqi media have underscored the significant role of Iranian forces in fighting against the IS. The media reports say Iranian forces have a decisive presence on the battlefield. Meanwhile Iranian officials said the Islamic Republic only acts as adviser to the Iraqi forces.
