Armenian armed forces violate ceasefire with Azerbaijan over 35 times within 24 hours
Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian military 34 times violated the ceasefire on various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan said Feb. 18.
Armenian armed forces stationed in the Chinari village and on nameless heights in Berd district of Armenia, opened fire on Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions in the Kohanabi and Munjuglu villages of Tovuz district.

Armenians stationed in the nameless heights in Krasnoselsk district of Armenia opened fire at Azerbaijani army positions on the nameless heights of Gadabay district.

Azerbaijani positions also came under fire from positions near the Chilaburt village of Terter district, Yusifjanli, Kengerli, Javahirli, Sarijali, Nemirli villages of Aghdam district, Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi Seyidahmadli villages of Fizuli district and the Mehdili village of Jabrail district.

Aside from that, Azerbaijani army positions came under fire from positions on nameless heights in Goranboy, Khojavand and Fuzuli districts.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

OSCE Minsk Group’s co-chairs are visiting the region. Despite this, Armenia continues provocations on the line of contact.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
