Russia`s cinemas switch to Russian popcorn
Russian cinema bars are going to use Russian popcorn raw material because of rouble depreciation and food counter-sanctions. This cinema-goers
“From the one hand, the purchase value increases, from the other, the purchasing power or at least the willing to spend money decreases. Cinemas were too conservative towards Russian production for a long time, but since August they have begun to purchase it more,” the head of the concessions Department of the “Delovaya Rus” company Yulia Pyshnenko tells the Izvestia newspaper.

What hinders complete import substitution

In spite of the measures taken it is impossible to substitute imported products completely because of the particularities of the market, Pyshnenko claims.

Firstly, the production for Russian cinema-bars does not consist only of Russian ingredients and some of them can be only imported.

Secondly, the production of popcorn depends on the corn yield, which is sufficient now only for the period till March 2015.

Thirdly, cinema-bar profit is directly dependent on the cinema profit; if there are few cinema visitors, there will be no profit for cinema-bars. So, there is the direct dependence of cinema-bars market on ticket prices at cinemas.
