French Senate hold conference entitled `The Nagorno Karabakh conflict: the main challenges and tragic consequences for security and stability in the Caucasus`
The French Senate held a conference entitled "The Nagorno Karabakh conflict: the main challenges and tragic consequences for security and stability in the Caucasus" on February 19.

Azerbaijani Embassy in France told that the event co-organized by the Embassy and Friends of Azerbaijan Association was dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of Khojaly tragedy.

Delivering a speech at the event, chairman of France-Caucasus friendship group of French Senate André Reichardt said that this conflict is a threat not only for the region, but also for the security in Europe. He expressed his regret for lack of progress in the negotiations and said peaceful settlement of the conflict within international norms and principles is the only way to restore peace and security in the Caucasus.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Elchin Emirbeyov spoke about the causes and consequences of the Armenians’ policy of aggression against Azerbaijan, stressed that ¼ part of the Azerbaijani territories are under occupation and the Armenians conduct policy of ethnic cleansing in the occupied territories. Touching on the tragedy committed in Khojaly 23 years ago, the diplomat emphasized the importance of political and legal assessment to be given by the world community to this crime and other crimes committed by Armenia.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Student Youth Organizations` Union (ASYOU) Shahin Ismayilov, IDP from Lachin Sabina Asadova, French historian Maxime Goyen and politician Pierre Conesa delivered speeches at the event.
