Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi met the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretary General Yukiya Amano in Vienna on Feb. 24.
The visit followed four days of intensive talks between diplomats and experts from Iran and the Group P5+1 (the US, UK , France , Russia , China , and Germany ) in Geneva .

Araqchi and Amano’s talks concerned “cooperation between Iran and the IAEA in relation to past and present issues” and “how to pursue and precipitate the cooperation’s continuation,” IRNA news agency reported.

The topic of the visit was previously announced as “continuing talks on the nuclear case”.

Araqchi had previously visited Vienna on October 28, 2013 as the first high-ranking Iranian diplomat within the Rouhani administration to meet the IAEA secretary general.

Experts believe that meeting opened a new chapter in Iran-IAEA relations. The next round of Iran-P5+1 talks will be held in Geneva March 2.

The latest of talks was for the first time attended by Chairman of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi and US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. The two attended the talks to discuss detailed technical issues.

The talks between Iran and the P5+ were extended until June 30, 2015 to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement. However, the sides attempt to reach a political accord in March.

After the parties failed to meet the November 24, 2014 deadline they also extended the Geneva nuclear deal, which was signed in November 2013 for providing Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.
