Opening of BTK railway is scheduled for October 30 - Azerbaijani FM

The official opening ceremony of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway (BTK) is scheduled for October 30 in Baku, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said at a meeting held in Tbilisi with Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.

Azerbaijani minister emphasized that delegations from a number of countries will attend the event. Elmar Mammadyarov invited Mikheil Canelidze to the ceremony.

The BTK railway is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. At the initial stage, this figure will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo.
