Azerbaijani FM: Attempts to change internationally recognized borders of states unacceptable
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Tuesday received a delegation led by President of the National Assembly of Slovenia Mitja Bervar, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.

The parties expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, noting that mutual high-level meetings contribute to the development of cooperation, the Foreign Ministry told.

M. Bervar mentioned a declaration adopted by Slovenia’s legislative authority on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, pointing out that the declaration backs a peaceful solution to the conflict in line with the UN Security Council’s resolutions through the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group.

M. Bervar then extended his congratulations to Azerbaijan over the first European Games scheduled to be held in Baku from June 12 to 28, adding that Slovenian athletes will participate in the games in large numbers.

E. Mammadyarov remarked in his turn the existence of historical ties between Azerbaijan and Slovenia, noting that it is noteworthy of the Slovenian people honoring the memory of Mehdi Huseynzadeh along with other Azerbaijanis who bravely fought for the liberation of Slovenia from fascism. The minister also said that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to developing its relations with the Balkans, adding that there are favorable conditions for the two countries to boost their bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy, economy and trade, investment, culture and sports.

E. Mammadyarov then mentioned the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, saying that any attempts to change internationally recognized borders of states are unacceptable and that all states must respect the norms and principles of international law.
